Volunteer Expedition Advisor
Mark Haviland
My time is spent with schools and businesses advocating for 'Conscious Careers' that can help us adapt to the societal and environmental changes we are witnessing. This fits well with a 30 year youth project I have undertaken with a community on Lake Victoria to help ensure resilience to the major challenges the lake faces. I am also vice-chair of the UK's Marine Conservation Society, whose work is dedicated to the protection and recovery of our seas. Having also worked in multinationals in the US, Europe and Asia, I can provide CWB with connections and perspectives that accelerate expedition planning and impact.
Learning from children, business leaders and communities helps me understand the hopes and fears people have for our environment and their future, which is an essential step in inspiring the changes we need to see across society.
The Arctic Tern that I first saw on the Isle of Skye. This epic traveller covers 25,000 miles per year from pole to pole, living often for 3 decades, and can be seen on northern UK shores. Graceful and resilient, they are a joy to see, but as with so many species their numbers are threatened.
This was taken at The Conduit in London, a place where people gather for the specific purpose of addressing the challenges society and our environment face. I feel enabled and inspired by that community, as I do by Sacha and her cause.
