Visiting The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth
Today the CWB expedition team visited the National Marine Aquarium and Sacha spoke to Mark Parry around seagrass beds, and an ingenious device that stops mooring chains from destroying flora on the ocean floors. Scaling up manufacturing of this device is cheap and could be a big win for climate and biodiversity!
Seagrasses are a wonder plant found in the shallow waters around Britain's coasts - They can capture carbon 35x faster than tropical rainforests and despite their limited cover absorb 10% of the ocean carbon every year!
Sacha talking Anaerobic Digestion!
Sacha talks to Nick Finding, a farmer who had a big idea to make renewable energy from ‘break’ crops, and secured backing for this bold idea from none other than His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.
Nick’s was the first site in the world to try to create biogas from plants and inject it directly into the National gas network.
This site has sparked over 100 other sites, and fuel creates enough to supply the whole of Poundbury during winter and in summer also provides further afield. Other byproducts are liquid fertilizer, peat free garden soil conditioner, electricity for the site and if you drink anything fizzy, you have probably drunk the carbon dioxide in your beer or cocktail!
